The People Behind the Aviary
FOA Exhibition Budgies is a small, home-based aviary built around a shared appreciation for the exhibition budgerigar and the process of developing quality over time. What began as an interest has grown into a focused program—guided by observation, ongoing learning, and a commitment to doing things thoughtfully. Each season brings new insight, and each bird contributes to the direction of the aviary. Behind the scenes, the work is steady and hands-on, supporting daily care, development, and the long-term goals of the program.
It’s a small aviary by design—built with intention, and shaped over time.
Affiliations & Identification
FOA Exhibition Budgies is registered with the Budgerigar Association of America (BAA), with birds banded using official closed bands under the FOA aviary code.
The aviary is a member of the Arizona Budgerigar Society (AZBS) and the Budgie Fanciers of San Diego County, an American Budgerigar Society (ABS) affiliated club—supporting continued learning, participation, and connection within the exhibition community.
The Aviary & The Approach
FOA Exhibition Budgies is a small, developing aviary built around the long-term pursuit of the exhibition standard.
The focus is not on volume, but on thoughtful pairings, careful observation, and steady progress over time. Each season is approached as an opportunity to refine, evaluate, and move the program forward.
Birds are raised with close attention to health, condition, and development—from the earliest stages through maturity. Decisions are made with the long-term strength of the line in mind, including knowing when to move forward—and when to step back.
What Guides the Aviary
- Health and condition as the foundation
- Purposeful, selective pairings
- Ongoing evaluation and refinement
- Commitment to the exhibition standard
The Exhibition Budgerigar
The exhibition budgerigar represents a balance of structure, feather, presence, and temperament—developed over generations of selective breeding.
At FOA, the focus is on building that balance with intention, patience, and attention to detail. Each bird contributes to a broader program aimed at long-term improvement rather than short-term results.
Current Focus
Current work within the aviary includes Texas Clearbodies and the blue series, with an emphasis on improving balance, feather quality, and overall presence.
Program Focus
